Elizabeth M. (Dittman) Rill

Elizabeth “Liz” M. Rill, age 104, formerly of Rockford, Michigan, and Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away Tuesday. September 26, 2023, at her home in Ocala, Florida. Liz was born July 15, 1919, in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Williard and Clara (Maxwell) Dittman.  Following her graduation from Mishawaka High School, Liz attended Indiana Normal College. Liz married Joseph Rill who preceded her in death in 1972.

Surviving is her daughter, Julie Ann (VanPaemel) Dillon-Erdmans and her husband James of Ocala, Florida, two grandchildren, Shawn (Renee) Dillon Sr. and Julie Mitchell and four great grandchildren Shawn Dillon Jr., Ashley Dennis, Zachary Mitchell, and Blake Mitchell.  Her sisters Dorothy Hemminger, Pat Snyder, Minnie Nickerson and Helen Szachna, all preceded her in death. 

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 2:00pm funeral service on Friday, October 6, 2023, Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home. Following services, Liz will be laid to rest beside her husband Joseph in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.  Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home (formerly Goethals and Wells) has been entrusted with her arrangements.

Liz was employed from 1940 until her retirement in 1985 with Bendix (Honeywell) Aviation.  In her spare time, she enjoyed ballroom dancing, cooking and all activities with her family. Liz also held longstanding memberships with USA SPA in Mishawaka and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.  

Her faith was also important to her, and she was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka and Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Rockford, Michigan.
