Ronald “Ron” Charles Gerard, age 80, of Bedford, Texas, formerly of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away on May 8, 2025. Ron was born on April 30, 1945, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Charles Roy and Ruth Marie (Schindler) Gerard. He graduated from Mishawaka High School and later attended Tri-State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering. Ron was a proud veteran and served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
On October 9, 1971, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Bolinger. This past year, they celebrated 53 wonderful years of marriage. Bonnie survives, along with their son, Joel Gerard. Ron is also survived by his siblings, Cherie Waller and Richard (Susan) Gerard.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home in Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest with military honors at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
Ron worked as an industrial engineer for Anchor Hocking and Sonoco Products before retiring at the age of 62. Outside of work, he lived a full and active life. He stayed active playing tennis and racquetball. Ron was also an avid reader and proudly served as a leader with the Boy Scouts of America. He will be remembered as a kind, generous, and loving man who touched the lives of many.
