Katie Vaerewyck, 67, of Mishawaka bravely fought until her passing on Saturday, February 14, 2026. She was born on February 15, 1958, in Elkhart to the late Mike and Ruby (McNeil) Kasevic and later married her sweetheart, George Vaerewyck and celebrated nearly 35 years of marriage, before his passing in 2017.

Two stepsons survive, along with her sisters, Jennie Goodman of Mishawaka and Carol (Alvie) Calhoun, of Oklahoma, her niece and nephew Bonnie (Adam) Lentych, of Mishawaka, and Robert (Terry Gifford) Goodman of Columbus, OH, and a great-nephew, Ethan Lentych.

Katie was a devoted and loyal presence whose caring spirit helped her work as a self-employed residential cleaner, faithfully serving many of the same clients for nearly 40 years. Her selfless, loyal nature made her a steady and dependable person to her family and those closest to her. Outside of work, Katie found joy in the simple, beautiful rhythms of life. She loved gardening and landscaping and could often be found tending to her yard or feeding the neighborhood birds and squirrels. She also cherished evenings attending live theatre performances and symphony events with Bonnie. A devoted fan, Katie cheered on the Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish football, supporting her teams with the same loyalty she showed to those she loved.

Cremation has taken place with a private family celebration to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society, or American Heart Association.
