Doris Hill

Doris Hill, 91, of Hammond, IN, entered heavenly rest on Monday, July 28, 2025, with family by her side. She was born on May 2, 1934, in Joliet, IL to the late Kenneth Blessing and Dorothy (Jenkins) White. She married Norman Hill on June 13, 1953, who preceded her in death in 2018.

Surviving are their children, Donnie (Lynne) Hill of Griffith, Charlotte (Chuck) Stapke of Wakarusa, Cindy (Pat) Sweeney of Crown Point, Kim (Bobby) McCarter of Schererville, and Kevin Hill (Carrie Brennan) of Crown Point. Nine grandchildren, Donnie (Mandy) Hill, Jenny (Eric) Riddle, Chris Hill, Charlie (Kelsey) Stapke, Emily Sweeney (Marcus Mitchell), Lizzie (Jay) Sheets, Sarah (Jon) Tallent, Hannah and Jack Hill, and 17 great-grandchildren also survive.

Doris was a devoted mother who raised her family in Hammond, building a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering love. After her children were raised, she and Norm spent nearly 25 wonderful years in The Villages of Lady Lake, Fl, where they enjoyed an active life and golfed three times a week until she moved. They returned to the area in 2017 to be closer to family. Doris was known for her good nature, beautiful smile, kind heart, polished appearance, and fierce determination. She was the steady pillar of her family and a beloved presence in everything she touched. But above all else, Doris adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the absolute joy of her life.

Cremation has taken place with a celebration of a beautiful life on August 9, 2025 at Teibels, 1775 US 41, Schererville, IN from 12:00 – 3:00pm CST. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care.
