Anne Delores Cappert, age 94, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Anne was born on July 19, 1931, in South Bend to the late Geza David and Helen (Voros) Yanko. She was a graduate of Riley High School and dedicated many years of service to Indiana University South Bend, where she worked in the Admissions Department.

On March 31, 1951, Anne married the love of her life, Phillip Cappert, at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church in South Bend. Together they shared more than 61 years of marriage before Phil’s passing on June 2, 2012. The Cappert’s made their home in South Bend before moving to Mishawaka in 1977.

Anne is survived by her children, Thomas P. Cappert of South Bend, Gerald P. (Sheryl) Cappert of Middlebury, and Janis C. (Jack) Obiala of Long Boat Key, Florida. She was a proud and loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, Jeffery Cappert, James (Becky) Cappert, Jason (Erika) Cappert, Stephanie (Morgan) Shipley, John (Jaa) Obiala, Matthew (Cara) Obiala, and Charles (Kate) Obiala. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren, with one more expected to arrive in August 2026. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary, Helen, Irene, Geza “Gay,” and Betty.

Anne had many talents and interests that reflected her generous spirit. She was a member of the quilting society and created beautiful hand-sewn quilts for family and friends. She made a baptismal dress for her grandchildren using fabric from her wedding gown. She was a longtime and devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka, where she faithfully served in many capacities over the years.

She loved to read, garden, and spend time outdoors feeding the birds that gathered at her feeders. Anne was also known for her compassion for animals, caring for neighborhood cats and holding a special place in her heart for dogs. A wonderful cook and baker, she enjoyed preparing dishes for her family and was especially known for her exceptional baking.

One of Anne’s greatest joys was spending Friday mornings at breakfast with dear friends she had known since kindergarten, friendships she cherished well into her 90th year. Above all, Anne had a remarkable zest for life and was always busy caring for her family and others.

The Cappert family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Paul Senior Living Community and to the staff and physicians of Caring Cove Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Anne during her time of need.

A private family service was held at Wells and Cruz Family Funeral Home in Mishawaka and a celebration of her life will take place for friends and extended family at a later date.
